Design Engineer – Ground Improvement
Location: Gulf CoastDiscipline: Geotechnical Design

We’re working with a specialist ground improvement contractor that’s looking to add a Design Engineer to their technical team. This role supports both sales and operations teams across office and field settings and offers the chance to get hands-on with a variety of challenging and rewarding projects.
Key Responsibilities
During the design stage:-
Review and analyze reference documents including geotechnical reports, specs, and civil/structural plans

Evaluate and select appropriate ground improvement approaches (settlement, bearing capacity, global stability, liquefaction mitigation, etc.)

Develop cross-sections and soil profiles; select appropriate soil properties for design

Perform finite element modelling (Plaxis) to assess deformations and stress

Complete design calculations including global stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and structural/geotechnical capacity of CMCs

Prepare and coordinate design documents, including calculations and drawings

Review QA/QC data from Field Engineers

Draft standard project documents (specifications, means/methods, testing submittals)

Respond to site-specific issues and deviations from design

Defend and explain design approaches in the field

Address reviewer comments and collaborate with the wider design team to secure approvals
What You’ll Need

A bachelor's or master’s degree in Civil Engineering

1–3 years of geotechnical design experience or relevant coursework

E.I.T. (Engineer-In-Training) preferred

Strong understanding of geotechnical design and calculation principles

Proficiency in slope stability analysis and finite element modeling

Familiar with AutoCAD; proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook

Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and contribute to technical discussions
