Estimating Manager (Deep Foundations)

We are seeking an experienced Estimating Manager on behalf of a leading deep foundation contractor known for their excellence in drilled shaft and auger cast projects across the U.S. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing the estimating department, managing complex bids, and supporting regional operations with accurate and strategic cost proposals. The ideal candidate will have deep foundation experience, strong leadership abilities, and a track record of successful bid management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of estimators and assistant estimators across various U.S. regions.

  • Review project plans, specifications, and engineering drawings to determine accurate work scopes and estimate requirements.

  • Prepare quantity take-offs, production rates, and initial resource requirements.

  • Develop complete cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.

  • Coordinate with purchasing agents, project managers, and operations staff to ensure alignment of estimate assumptions with execution strategies.

  • Manage bidding timelines and ensure timely submission of proposals.

  • Review bids from vendors and subcontractors for accuracy, fairness, and completeness.

  • Establish and oversee preliminary project schedules and cost breakdowns.

  • Support project handover meetings to ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to operations.

  • Evaluate and mitigate bid risks, while identifying opportunities to add value.

  • Maintain documentation such as estimates, bids, contracts, and correspondence.

  • Travel occasionally to project sites or regional offices to support estimating efforts and team development.

  • Ensure all estimating activities comply with internal procedures, industry standards, and safety regulations.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field; equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in estimating, cost control, and/or project engineering—at least 4 years specifically in estimating.

  • Proven experience in deep foundation construction (drilled shafts, auger cast, or related systems).

  • Strong knowledge of estimating techniques, project cost analysis, and construction processes.

  • Proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid , Microsoft Excel, and other common tools.

  • Ability to manage, coach, and mentor estimating staff, fostering a collaborative team culture.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Willingness to travel to support project or team needs as required.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • Primarily office-based with occasional visits to active construction sites across the U.S.

  • Extended periods of sitting and regular use of computers, phones, and office equipment.

  • When visiting job sites, must be able to walk and stand for long periods and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, high-visibility apparel, etc.).

  • Occasional exposure to varying weather conditions, construction site environments, dust, noise, and uneven terrain.
