Senior Design Engineer – Ground Improvement

We’re partnered with a well-established geotechnical contractor that’s expanding its design team in Ontario. They’re looking for a Senior Design Engineer to lead complex ground improvement projects across the region.
This is a key technical position where you'll be responsible for managing the full design process from feasibility through to execution, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring high design standards are met. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys seeing their designs come to life in the field and has a practical, construction-minded approach to engineering.
What you'll be doing

Lead the geotechnical design of ground improvement systems, including stone columns, rigid inclusions, and dynamic compaction

Perform advanced numerical modelling and analysis using tools like Plaxis 2D, Settle3, and Slope/W

Contribute to feasibility studies and support estimating teams during bid/proposal phases

Coordinate with project managers and field teams to ensure seamless design-to-execution transitions

Review and approve design reports, drawings, and technical documentation

Mentor junior engineers and support technical development across the team

Develop and implement QA/QC processes to ensure consistency and quality in all deliverables
What we're looking for

Minimum 5 years of geotechnical or ground improvement design experience

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s degree a plus)

Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with PEO

Strong understanding of construction methods and field application of designs

Previous experience with design-build or ground improvement contractors preferred

Proficiency in geotechnical software (Plaxis, Settle3, Slope/W, etc.)

Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently within a collaborative team
